SMITHSONIAN ICON
INTERACTION PROJECT
For this project, I was given a theoretical project brief:
The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History has commissioned you to develop a system of symbols for the Sant Ocean Hall that will be used for both categorizing and appealing to a younger audience (for easier education).
After researching, brainstorming applications, and coming up with referents, I settled on one particular concept. For this concept, the symbols would serve as educational devices with facts relating to the given part of the museum. Additionally, the symbols would be part of a scavenger hunt where participants could find the symbols (using a guide or an app) and “collect” them and their facts for prizes like stickers.
(Animated prototype was created with Figma)
ICON PROCESS
SANT OCEAN HALL APP
User scans the QR code and is directed to the Ocean Hall App
The user arrives at a language choice page before entering the main page.
The main home page features all of the icons/characters.
The user clicks on an icon/character and is directed to a page describing it and its' exhibit area.
User scans fact QR code next to icon
User reads the fact presented by the character
The fact is added to the collection
The user can view all of the facts they've gathered so far on a page similar to the home page
Once the user collects all of the facts and goes through every section, they are shown a screen that directs them to receive a prize
